Grocery Shopping and Delivery (Chinese-speaking)

With direction from supervisor: 

  • Shop for culturally appropriate groceries from designated stores for Chinese-speaking seniors and deliver them to their homes (across the Greater Ottawa Area)

  • Ensure that grocery items are correct following each client’s grocery list

  • Coordinate with staff about scheduling and delivery routes

  • Receive grocery cost payments from clients

  • Follow strict safety measures according to SWCHC policy

  • Record mileage and fill out paperwork for reimbursemeny

  • Reliability is extremely important for this position


6 months

Weekly or Bi-Weekly (4-6 hours/shift)

  • Access to a personal vehicle, 2 million in liability insurance and a valid driver’s license is required for this position

  • Knowledge of Chinese cultural foods (Able to purchase items based on a Chinese language grocery list from each client)

  • Ability to follow strict safety measure independently (Mask, Eye Protection – goggles or face shield when delivering grocery)

  • IMPORTANT: Please note that this position requires the volunteer to have the ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin. See Linguistic Profile Requirement below.

  • SWCHC and Yet Keen have a mandatory vaccination policy for all staff, volunteers and students


  • Weekly or Bi-Weekly, depending on the volunteer’s interest and availability

  • 4-6 hours each shift


  • Must be able to fulfill duties in a manner that is non-judgemental and hold the belief that diversity makes us stronger

Screening Requirements:

  • Interview with volunteer coordinator or program staff

  • Police Record Check (Criminal and Judicial Matters)

  • 2 references

  • COVID Attestation form (volunteers must sign a form confirming that they are healthy and unaware of any COVID exposure)
