ABOUT US

Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC) is a non-profit, community-governed organization that provides a range of primary health care and social services. Its mission is to support people and communities to enjoy the best possible health and well-being. This is done by providing primary health care and social services, and promoting access to the social conditions that influence health, such as housing, food security, employment and civic engagement.

 

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Somerset West Community Health Centre is looking for passionate and dedicated members of our community to join our volunteer Board of Directors. Board members must be willing to attend a monthly Board meeting, and participate on one Committee. The Centre can provide assistance with child care for meetings, and for transportation for meetings, if needed.  

 

Our Centre values the diversity of individuals on our board and in our programs and services. We welcome and encourage applications from members of Indigenous, Black and racialized communities, Two-Spirit, nonbinary, LGBTQ+ people; people with disabilities; and members of other equity deserving communities.

 

We are particularly looking for candidates with skills or experience in the following areas:

  • Fundraising

  • Information Technology

  • Individuals from the 2SLGBTQI+ community

  • Individuals who live within the Somerset West CHC catchment area

Applicants are encouraged to share accessibility needs in the application process, and every attempt will be made to accommodate them.

Individuals interested in joining the Board of Directors are encouraged to express their interest by June 6th, 2025. Members will be voted onto the Board on September 10th, at the Centre's Annual General Meeting.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

​

  • The working language of the Centre is English; all Board and Committee meetings are conducted in English 

  • Time commitment is 3-5 hours per month September-June inclusive

  • Financial assistance is available for childcare and transportation to attend meetings  

  • Interviews with selected candidates will be held virtually mid-June 

  • All applications will be reviewed however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted
