The residents of Rochester Heights win a National Award
The community of Rochester Heights in the heart of west central Ottawa has been chosen as one of ten national award winners of the 2010 Kool-Aid Smile Award. Through the efforts of dozens of volunteers, many community partners and with the strong support and leadership provided by Let Them Be Kids and Kool-Aid, the residents of Rochester Heights are striving to build a brand new play structure on August 28, 2010.
On Monday June 28, 2010 the official launch will see Rochester Heights residents, Somerset West Community Health Centre board and staff members, City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Housing officials as well as other community partners come together to celebrate this amazing community building project. The goal of this project is not only to create a fun and safe place for children to play but to ignite the spirit of this diverse community by bringing residents together and building community cohesion.
Let Them Be Kids and Kool-Aid have partnered to help build stronger communities across Canada and help bring affordable fun and play to all children and families. Rochester Heights was selected as one of 10 communities to receive the Let Them Be Kids, Kool-Aid Smile Award, providing support and resources to help make this community project a success. For the next few weeks community residents and volunteers will be busy raising funds and community awareness to ensure the play structure is a success. With the Kool-Aid Award of $5,000 and Let Them Be Kids matching fundraised dollars, the community is well on its way to meeting their target build day of August 28, 2010.
